A Shot in the Arm：一针强心剂，振奋人心

在1916年的一期The Lewiston Evening Journal中，a shot in the arm就用了现在的比喻义：“The vets can give politics a shot in the arm and the political leaders realize it.”意思是说，政治领袖从兽医给动物打针的事上学到了一些东西。
